Can you clean mattresses with a steam cleaner?

When it comes to mattress cleanliness, it's not just mites and the like that are a big issue. A lot of germs can also collect here. However, using chemicals to combat this makes the situation even worse in terms of health and sleeping comfort. After all, aerosols from cleaning agents can irritate the skin and mucous membranes throughout the night - a no-go, especially for allergy sufferers.

If mattresses are cleaned with micro dry steam instead, not only are mites, germs etc. eliminated, but chemical residues are also eliminated. A clean night's sleep is therefore guaranteed.

The most important facts in brief: Mattress cleaning with saturated steam

  • A normal steam cleaner is not suitable for cleaning mattresses as the moisture gets inside

  • But: Yes, you can clean mattresses with steam cleaners. We recommend the micro dry steam cleaners for this.

  • Due to its high temperature, micro dry steam renders all mites, germs etc. and unpleasant odors in mattresses harmless

  • No chemical residues remain in the mattress without the use of cleaning agents

  • Allergy sufferers benefit twice over: no more mites and no more chemicals that can irritate the skin and mucous membranes

  • The absence of chemical cleaning agents and disinfectants means that expensive materials such as latex, memory foam etc. are not affected

  • The low water content of micro dry steam enables uncomplicated mattress cleaning without long drying times

Steam cleaner vs. dry steam cleaner

It would simply not be possible to clean mattresses with a conventional steam cleaner. The reason: the water content of around 25% would soak the mattress too much. Afterwards, a lengthy drying process would be necessary - if at all possible. In addition, so-called wet steam is generated at a maximum of 130 degrees. This means that the outlet temperature of the wet steam is not sufficient to inactivate germs.

Advantages of micro dry steam:

  • Dry steam is generated at over 190° so that the outlet temperature is high enough to automatically cause thermal disinfection: all germs are inactivated and mites are killed.
  • Micro dry steam has a water content of just 5% in the form of tiny water molecules, which no longer have any surface tension and can therefore penetrate all dirt structures and pores > Mattresses do not get wet during cleaning and are completely dry again after a very short time.

Cleaning the mattress with a steam cleaner - how it works

  • The Micro Cleaner models from Medeco are available as cleaning devices as well as dry steam vacuums that suck up moisture directly during the cleaning process.
  • Each Micro Cleaner is equipped with a wide range of attachments and accessories for every area of application.
  • Mattresses are simply "steamed" with the steam cleaner for thorough and hygienic cleaning or vacuumed at the same time with the dry steam vacuum cleaner. Various brush attachments are available depending on preference.
  • Superficial soiling or stubborn individual stains on the mattress cover can also be targeted and removed using micro dry steam.
  • The high temperature of the dry steam automatically causes thermal disinfection, which not only renders mites and germs harmless, but also eliminates all odors. This means that the mattress - no matter what material it is made of - is also cleaned and disinfected on the inside.
  • Micro dry steam has a moisture content of only 5 %. Therefore, cleaned mattresses are completely dry and usable again after a short time.

Conclusion: Can mattresses be cleaned with a steam cleaner?

Absolutely! For mattresses in particular, there is virtually no alternative to cleaning with micro dry steam. Mattress covers can usually be removed and cleaned in the washing machine. However, this is quite inconvenient on the one hand. On the other hand, the inside of the mattress is not cleaned at all. This is despite the fact that this is where mites, germs etc. collect and settle. The high temperature of the dry steam, which penetrates into the core of the mattress during cleaning, ensures that it is completely thermally disinfected and is then hygienically clean. At the same time, the mattress cover can be cleaned much more easily and quickly, and therefore more frequently, without having to remove it.
