According to a study, there are plenty of germs lurking in fully automatic coffee machines, especially in the tank, hoses and nozzles. Mold can even form in the brewing units. For carefree coffee enjoyment, we recommend cleaning the machine with dry steam. The reason: a dry steam cleaner can even reach hard-to-reach areas and, thanks to the high temperatures, thermal disinfection takes place automatically - without the use of chemicals.
To do this, water is heated in handy appliances to such an extent that almost dry steam is produced. The water content is only 5 percent. This allows fully automatic coffee machines to be cleaned thoroughly without leaving a lot of moisture in the machine. At the same time, micro steam appliances such as the Micro Cleaner from the manufacturer Medeco work at high pressure in the truest sense of the word, so that the "saturated steam" flows out of the handpiece at around 9 bar. This means that even hard-to-reach areas of the machine are completely clean, such as crevices, the base of the water tank, the brew group or narrow hoses. There are also various attachments to get the steam precisely into every corner.
Thermal disinfection
What is even more important in view of the large number of germs that can accumulate in coffee machines is that if micro-dry steam is used, the surfaces are automatically thermally disinfected. "Thanks to the high outlet temperature of up to 100 degrees Celsius, around 99.99 percent of all mold, bacteria and viruses that can accumulate in a coffee machine are rendered harmless," explains Fritz Pattis, founder of the Green Cleaning concept, which is based on dry steam. As a rule, 60 degrees is enough to effectively eliminate germs and mold.
Coffee enjoyment without chemicals
This cleaning method is also recommended for anyone who wants to keep their fully automatic coffee machine clean without any chemicals. Compared to cleaning tablets and powders, dry steam machines are exclusively water-based, so that the coffee remains free of chemical residues.
